Akrep takımyıldızının yoğun yıldız alanında, kendi ışığı olmayan bir bulut yüzer: Barnard 252. E. E. Barnard'ın yüz yıl önce kataloglandığı bu tozun biçimi bir yunusa benzediği için bu adı almıştır.

Fotoğrafta bulutsunun kendisi hiç görünmez; yalnızca ardındaki yüz binlerce yıldızın ışığını kestiği için bir siluet olarak belirir. Karanlığı fotoğraflamak, ışığı fotoğraflamaktan daha çok pozlama ister.

In the dense star field of Scorpius floats a cloud with no light of its own: Barnard 252. Catalogued by E. E. Barnard a century ago, the dust takes the shape of a dolphin, hence its name.

The nebula itself never appears in the photograph; it shows only as a silhouette, because it blocks the light of hundreds of thousands of stars behind it. Photographing darkness takes more exposure than photographing light.
