Erboğa'da Yıldız Denizinde Bir BulutsuA Nebula in a Sea of Stars

Erboğa takımyıldızının yoğun yıldız alanında, kırmızı hidrojenin koyu toz sütunlarıyla kesiştiği bir bölge. Ortadaki koyu, parmak biçimli yapı bir "fil hortumu": Çevredeki sıcak yıldızların ışınımının aşındıramadığı, içinde yıldız doğan yoğun bir gaz sütunu.

Kuzey yarımküreden hiç görülemeyen bu tür güney bulutsuları, sergideki fotoğrafların bir kısmının neden dünyanın öbür ucundan çekildiğini anlatır.

In the dense star field of Centaurus, a region where red hydrogen meets dark pillars of dust. The dark finger-shaped structure at the centre is an "elephant trunk": a dense column of gas that the radiation of nearby hot stars has not managed to erode, with stars forming inside it.

Southern nebulae like this never rise above the horizon from the northern hemisphere, which explains why some of the photographs in this exhibition were taken from the other side of the world.
