Akrep'te Bir H II BölgesiAn H II Region in Scorpius

Akrep takımyıldızının kuyruğuna yakın bu bölge, güney Samanyolu'nun yıldız oluşum kuşağının bir parçasıdır. Kırmızı hidrojen ışıması, önünde duran uzun ve koyu toz şeridiyle kesilir; şeridin ucunda gazın en yoğun olduğu yerde parlak bir düğüm görülür.

Karanlık toz aslında bulutsunun en ilginç yeridir: Yeni yıldızlar tam bu koyu iplerin içinde doğar. Fotoğraf, ışıkla karanlığın aynı bulutta nasıl iç içe olduğunu gösterir.

Near the tail of Scorpius, this region is part of the star-forming belt of the southern Milky Way. The red hydrogen glow is cut by a long dark lane of dust in front of it; at the lane's tip, where the gas is densest, a bright knot appears.

The dark dust is the most interesting part of the nebula: new stars are born inside these very filaments. The image shows how light and darkness are woven together in a single cloud.
