Kuğu takımyıldızının parlak yıldızı Deneb'in yanı başında, bir kıta haritasını andıran dev bir hidrojen bulutu. "Meksika Körfezi" ve "Florida" o kadar belirgindir ki adı yüz yıldır değişmemiştir.

Kırmızı renk, iyonlaşmış hidrojenin karakteristik ışımasıdır; bulutu aydınlatan yıldız ise tozun arkasında gizlidir. Bulutsu gökyüzünde dolunayın dört katı yer kaplar — bu yüzden geniş alanlı bir teleskopla çekilmiştir.

Beside Deneb, the bright star of Cygnus, lies a vast hydrogen cloud shaped like a continent. The "Gulf of Mexico" and "Florida" are so distinct that the name has not changed in a century.

The red colour is the characteristic glow of ionised hydrogen; the star lighting the cloud is hidden behind dust. The nebula covers four times the area of the full Moon in the sky, which is why it was photographed with a wide-field telescope.
