Tycho KrateriTycho Crater

Tycho, Ay'ın güney yaylalarındaki en genç büyük kraterlerden biridir. 108 milyon yıl önce, dinozorlar hâlâ Dünya'yı dolaşırken oluştu. Çarpmanın fırlattığı parlak malzeme yüzeyde 1500 kilometreye kadar uzanan ışınlar çizer; dolunayda bu ışınlar çıplak gözle bile seçilir.

Fotoğrafta kraterin teraslı duvarları ve merkez tepesi görülüyor. Bu ayrıntı, atmosferin sakin olduğu kısa anları yakalamak için binlerce kare arasından seçim yapılarak elde edildi.

Tycho is one of the youngest large craters in the Moon's southern highlands. It formed 108 million years ago, while dinosaurs still walked the Earth. Bright material thrown out by the impact draws rays up to 1,500 km across the surface, visible to the naked eye at full Moon.

The image shows the crater's terraced walls and central peak. This level of detail is obtained by selecting the sharpest of thousands of frames, capturing the brief moments when the atmosphere is still.
