Bukalemun BulutuThe Chamaeleon Cloud

Güney gökyüzünün derinlerinde, Bukalemun takımyıldızındaki bu bölge Güneş'e en yakın yıldız doğumevlerinden biridir. Ortadaki mavi parıltı, genç bir yıldızın ışığını yansıtan toz; çevresindeki kahverengi damarlar ise henüz yıldıza dönüşmemiş soğuk moleküler gazdır.

Fotoğraf uzun pozlamalarla, bu tür bulutları görünür kılmak için gereken sabırla çekildi. Gökyüzünün bu kadar "boş" görünen bir köşesinin aslında ne kadar dolu olduğunu gösterir.

Deep in the southern sky, this region of Chamaeleon is one of the star-forming clouds nearest to the Sun. The blue glow at the centre is dust reflecting the light of a young star; the brown veins around it are cold molecular gas that has not yet collapsed into stars.

Long exposures and patience are needed to reveal clouds like these. The image shows how full a seemingly empty corner of the sky really is.
